I got in touch with MacPaw support - they stalled for a week saying that their engineers were working on a solution. Diagnosis: I needed to restore the machine. I got on the phone with Apple for what was maybe 3 hours. I couldn’t add a new account to the machine to try and have a different login and somehow restore the files. My “MacHD - Data” was able to be mounted with my password but not “MacHD”. My Apple ID wasn’t able to unlock the volume (ie reset the password). When I was granted the login screen, my password was not accepted. Not much seemed to have change on the machine so I restarted it to see if that would help. Upon downloading it, I ran a sweep clearing cache and misc files in an attempt to clear up some memory. I downloaded this for my 2018 MBP just a few weeks ago as my machine was getting bogged down and saw a recommendation (and that it was on the App Store).

Long Story: I’m a musician and full time designer which means I have a lot of large files I’m working with on a daily basis. I’m now down to my last resort which is to restore from a backup from 8 months ago. I’ve been locked out of my computer and have spent hours now dealing with Apple and third party support to no avail. It may not be news to some or most but please, please avoid this software. I just don’t want this to happen to anyone else. I’ve lost all my work and music from the last year. TLDR: CleanMyMac X locked me out of my computer and Apple Support, third party venders and MacPaw are all unable to help me.
